  • A change to the Olympic Marathon Trials qualifying standards will benefit several former D.C. area residents. A new 2:45:00 B standard retroactively qualified former Capital Area Runners Sarah Bard (2:43:16 at the 2013 Hartford Marathon) and Katie Sheedy (2:44:28 at the 2015 California International Marathon), plus Lake Braddock alumnus Anna Corrigan (2:44:27 at the 2014 Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon). The race is Feb. 13 in Los Angeles.
  • The Fletcher’s Cove parkrun series of free weekly 5k runs on the C&O Canal Towpath (at 4940 Canal Road NW) will debut Jan. 9 and be held at 9 a.m. every Saturday. The event is open to all ages and abilities and requires a one-time online registration at www.parkrun.us/fletcherscove.
  • The 2018 USA Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at the PG Sports and Learning Complex in Landover March 16-18. The Potomac Valley Track Club will serve as the host organization.
