Monumental Runner – Adrienne Moore

Name: Adrienne Moore

Self-described age group: A new masters runner!

Residence: Falls Church

Occupation: military musician

Volunteer roles in the running world: D.C., Maryland and Virginia team leader for Oiselle Volée running team

Why you run: For health, sanity and friends

When did you get started running: My daughter joined Girls on the Run in elementary school in 2014, and she needed a partner for her 5K. I haven’t stopped since I began my first couch to 5K program

Have you taken a break from running: Yes, I had fractures in both my tibia two summers ago while ramping up training for my first marathon. Had to push that off, but ran the Marine Corps Marathon last October!

Training shoe: I’m a shoe horse — I have at least 12 pair. I’m really loving the Brooks Levitate right now.

Coach or training group: I do intervals and did a Greg McMillan plan for my marathon.

The hardest race you’ve ever run: Probably my first half, Zooma Annapolis, since I upgraded from the 10K to the half at the expo. It was a hilly and hot race that I hadn’t trained for. The marathon also tested me, for sure.

Most adventurous decision you’ve made with your running: I love to run in different places and I don’t map my runs ahead of time. Getting lost is part of the adventure! Just stay safe.

Running mentors: Meb, Kara Goucher, and my friends Cindy, Tom and Courtney

My favorite place to run in the D.C. area is: The Mall. I can’t help but love it!

Favorite local trail:  C&O Canal Towpath

My best race was: Broad Street Run in Philadelphia. I broke 2 in 10 miles and it was a lot of fun.

Favorite local race: MCM 10K. It’s a great course, and who doesn’t want to get a medal from a Marine?

Ideal post-run meal: Breakfast! French Toast.

Favorite flavor of gel, gu, etc: I like Tailwind and Power Beans

Pet peeve: I feel the running community is amazingly accepting, so I can’t really think of one off-hand.

Goals: Run more days a week

Your advice for a new runner: Start slow and run often.

Favorite running book: 80/20 Running by Matt Fitzgerald

Song in your head during a run: I listen to Hamilton often and sing it in my head when I’m not listening to it, too!

Have you dealt with a major injury: Yes, double fibia fracture. I’ve also had some shin splint issues.

Running quote: “If you run, you are a runner. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far. It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run.”
― John Bingham

Why is the D.C. area a great place to be a runner: So many monumental (see what I did there?) places to run!
